About Ballyshannon

Ballyshannon, created a Borough by Royal Charter in 1613, is one of the oldest towns in Ireland and is the birthplace of such diverse luminaries as Allingham (the poet), Rory Gallagher (the rock guitarist) and even Tony Blair can trace his roots back to this charming town. From its idyllic setting, the town looks out over the Erne Estuary and has panoramic views of mountains, lakes and forests.

Its surrounding environment offers a wealth of activities including golf, horseriding, fishing, canoeing/kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and more. It provides the ideal 'hub' destination for exploring and enjoying the magic that Donegal Bay has to offer.

Ballyshannon itself, is a thriving Arts and Cultural Centre with many events and societies such as the Allingham Arts Society, Drama Festival, the Musical Society and the Historical Society. The annual Folk Festival every summer attracts top music acts both folk & traditional and many visitors enjoy the warm welcome from the "kindly spot, the friendly town".

Ballyshannon is famous for its local craft shops and varied selection of traditional pubs.
